Africa Animal Welfare Conference, Action 2018

The Africa Animal Welfare Conference - ACTION 2018 will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from 3rd - 5th September 2018 at the United Nations, Nairobi. The theme of the conference is ‘People, Animals and Planet: One Health, One Welfare’. Africa Network for Animal Welfare is collaborating with United Nations Environment and the Government of Kenya to co-host this conference.

The conference takes the form of an Africa-wide platform and aims at bringing together an array of high caliber expertise in various thematic areas from different nations across Africa and beyond to address the interplay between Animal Welfare, Environment and Development amongst them pollution, food security, environmental health, animal welfare concerns, and the Sustainable Development Goals. The conference will seek to highlight pertinent issues arising from the uncontainable infrastructural boom that has been experienced in Africa over the last half a decade. This conference is aligned to the African Union’s (AU) Agenda 2063, which has a vision for “an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena,” by integrating these issues to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Conference will provide a unique opportunity for animal welfare civil society groups, non-governmental organisations, and relevant stakeholders including researchers, policymakers and development practitioners from Africa, and elsewhere, to debate about animal welfare in the context of Africa’s development.

ANAW is accredited to United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as a major group and to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) as an advisor with consultative status.
