For seven (7) days, ANAW in partnership with Machakos and Taita Taveta Counties' officials and Julie Kelly Group of Veterinarians from USA have traversed the above mentioned two counties conducting mass anti-rabies vaccination campaign in which 7,020 animals (dogs, cats and donkeys) were attended to.
The team endured treacherous terrain, most of the time, language barrier, intermittent network, and body exhaustion to get the job done. The county government officials offered the team immense support, local leaders and media helped in community mobilization to bring their animals and unequivocal support from the communities made the work easier hence achieving the impressive number of animals vaccinated.
As ANAW we would like to register our deepest appreciation to Julie Kelly team for finding time to come to Kenya despite the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic that has hindered many from traveling; that dedication and love for Africa's animals is profoundly admirable and appreciated. It is our hope that the over 7,000 animals vaccinated is a step towards the road to achieving Kenya's National Rabies Elimination Strategy goals.
