JOB VACANCY – COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

A Non-Governmental Organization registered in Kenya and working in Kenya and in the Africa region is seeking to employ a qualified Communications Manager.

Responsibilities:

  1. Writes and or edits speeches and develops advancement position papers for senior management and the board. This includes article/topic selection, research, content editing.
  2. Sub-editing and proof reading articles
  3. Sourcing and formatting images
  4. Write articles or materials as needed
  5. Provide website content
  6. Write or edit strategic public relations documents including press releases, solicitation letters, acknowledgment letters, magazine and any other official communication going out to the public.
  7. Writes and or edits speeches and develops advancement position papers for senior management and the board. This includes article/topic selection, research, content editing.
  8. Develop content for proposals, and presentations that are efficient for resource mobilization.
  9. Edit quarterly reports, annual reports, magazine and any other materials produced by the other parts of the organization to ensure consistency and accuracy
  10. Editing speeches, board reports, donor communication.
  11. Implement communication activities and tools such as:
    • Press releases
    • Press conferences
    • Media engagements
    • Press invites

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  1. Bachelor degree in communication, Mass Communication or Journalism required.
  2. Experience: Minimum 2 years in public relations or position, professional services experience preferred.
  3. Must be self-motivated and independent, able to work with a minimum of supervision and to work well with experts and staff.
  4. Polished presentation and interpersonal skills required for representing the organization in diverse environments.
  5. Proficient in computer and internet skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite and working knowledge of Indesign
  6. Excellent writing and editing skills
  7. Excellent attention to detail required
  8. Good verbal communication skills and ability to convincingly pitch stories to media, speeches and presentations
  9. Good knowledge of the media and publication world
  10. Ability to research, establish and maintain relationships with media
  11. Interest in and knowledge of animal welfare and conservation issues strongly preferred
